Looks like Drax will be safe.

Despite fears of James Gunn being entirely scrubbed from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, THR reports that Disney does plan on using Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy 3. At the very least, this should ease fan fears about the tone of the movie changing too much.

Many took issue with the firing of director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 due to the resurfacing of some old but explicit tweets. The entire cast of Guardians even signed a letter expressing their support for Gunn, writing in part, "James Gunn is likely not the last good person to be put on trial."

Dave Bautista in particular was very unhappy with this choice, and said that he would not be in the next movie if they didn't use James Gunn's script. Thankfully, it's looking like that is not a threat that he will have to follow through on.

Since the director's firing, plenty of other studios have expressed interest in Gunn, but they can't approach him until his split with Disney is a done deal. The negotiations settling Gunn's departure from the studio remain ongoing. He likely won't get paid his full fee, but because Gunn reportedly didn't break his contract with Disney, a source told THR that he could be getting a payout of $10 million or more. After he's is officially done with Disney, he's free to take on new projects as soon as he chooses.

At this point, Gunn's departure is the only major shakeup that the Guardians franchise is experiencing.
