James Gunn Gives An Update On Guardians Of The Galaxy 3
"It's different than what people are going to expect."
Writer-director James Gunn has provided an update on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, saying in a new interview that Marvel is "really stoked" with what's been delivered so far. Gunn also discussed the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, the filming of which was delayed due to COVID.
Talking to Collider, Gunn said Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is "going great." Gunn specifically mentioned how excited he is about having actor Chukwudi Iwuji, who plays Murn in Gunn's Peacemaker, as a lead actor in the next Guardians film. Gunn also teased that the new film might not be what people expect.
"People are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went... They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it's not going to be the movie people... It's different than what people are going to expect. It's a hard road, but I'm really happy with it so far," Gunn said.
Also in the interview, Gunn spoke about the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which will film alongside Vol. 3 when the schedule opens up. Gunn said there was "too much Omicron around," so production had to be delayed. But Gunn is excited about it all the same.
"The holiday special is... I'm almost jealous of it, even though I wrote it because people freak out so much on how much they love the script for the holiday special that I'm almost like, 'Well, wait. I've got this movie here I've been working on for two years. You love the holiday special that I literally wrote in a very short amount of time,'" Gunn said. "But, it is really funny and really good."
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is slated to release in Holiday 2022, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is tracking toward a May 2023 release date.
