Jaleco shifts biz strategy
Japanese gamemaker begins life anew as a pure holding company, with interests including real estate and securities, in addition to games.
Longtime game publisher Jaleco has become a full-fledged holding company this week. This move followed the company's May 31 announcement that it intended to "become a pure holding company through a corporate demerger." The holding company, Jaleco Holding, will control 100 percent of a number of affiliates, including a real estate agency, a securities company, and Jaleco, its game-development subsidiary. Jaleco may be best known in the West for its Bases Loaded series dating back to the Nintendo Entertainment System, but its more recent releases have included Goblin Commander on the Xbox, GameCube, and PlayStation 2, as well as Room Zoom on the Xbox, GameCube, and PC.
