ION's Mike Wilson Takes a Hike
John Romero will become ION Storm's new CEO as Wilson embarks on a new publishing venture.
ION Storm announced Thursday that a key member, CEO Mike Wilson, was leaving the company.
The departure, effective immediately, sees Wilson leaving ION to form his own interactive game publishing company, which he has decided to name g.o.d. (Gathering of Developers).
In a statement, Wilson said, "The calling to form a publishing company that was simply a gathering of developers was one I couldn't ignore. From the get-go, g.o.d. will be built upon two key attributes that are most needed in a publisher - trust and expertise. Acting as a co-op publisher, g.o.d. will aim to establish the new status quo for developer-publisher relations."
ION Storm's long-term relationship with publisher Eidos appears unaffected by the move. An Eidos insider told GameSpot News, "If Romero had left, we'd be in hell and high water."
Romero has taken over the role of CEO at Ion Storm.
Eidos' Gary Keith said the pact with ION is secure. "Basically nothing changes at all."
Wilson leaves ION with a noted background in computer gaming. He was formerly the director of marketing and distribution at id Software and was also the vice president of development at DWANGO (Dial-Up Wide Area Network Gaming Operation).
