Interplay Signs Direct Deal with Wal-Mart
The publisher will now distribute its games directly to the retail chain.
Interplay announced today that it has closed an agreement with Wal-Mart that will let the publisher distribute its PC games directly to the retail chain. Such agreements sometimes lead game manufacturers to deliver custom packaging or special software versions to retailers, which can justify the special treatment with the sales volume.
"This is a very exciting opportunity," stated Interplay chairman and CEO, Brian Fargo. "Until now, we have never been able to fully maximize our potential with Wal-Mart. It's a direct result of our increased efforts to form strong strategic alliances with retail partners." Interplay recently published the role-playing game Icewind Dale, which was the fourth best-selling game according to the most recent PC Data figures.
