Infinite Jump Glitch Makes Sonic Boom Beatable Within an Hour

Obvious game exploit allows Knuckles to restart his jump when pausing the game.

A major bug found just one day after the release of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric allows the game to be completed in less than an hour.

Known as the infinite height exploit, the bug occurs when playing as Knuckles, whose jump action can be manually restarted when pausing the game (a video demonstrating the glitch can be found above). Effectively it means players can continually jump to unrestricted heights if continually pausing the game.

Now players are using the glitch to make major shortcuts through the Wii U game, jumping over sky-high walls to reach inaccessible areas, with the fastest completion so far clocked under an hour. Twitch user Parax0 has published a video of a sub-hour completion on his channel, which you can see below. Parax0 says "this is my third playthrough ever so I didn't practice much and there's loads of mistakes and optimizations possible".

It is not clear how the infinite jump oversight had made its way through both Sega and Nintendo's quality assurance tests.

Publisher Sega did not issue review codes for Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, meaning that critics have yet to assess the game.
