Warner Bros. is already making a Minecraft movie, but that's not the only video game feature film the Harry Potter film giant has in the works. The company has acquired the film rights to Scott Cawthon's popular horror game Five Nights at Freddy's, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

No Caption Provided

The movie doesn't yet have a director, cast, or script, but some high-profile Hollywood names have come aboard to produce it. Roy Lee (The Departed, The LEGO Movie) and Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions (the upcoming Beetlejuice sequel) are signed on as producers.

"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying, and weirdly adorable movie," Grahame-Smith said.

Cawthon added: "The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to."

Five Nights at Freddy's is legitimately terrifying. In the game, players must survive in a scary version of Chuck E. Cheese's that's full of animatronic monsters. Check out the video above to see it in action.

Also, a friend of mine teaches 6th grade.

Apparently, most of her kids talk almost primarily about two games: Minecraft and Friday Nights at Freddy's.

@RedWave247: I was surprised by this article because I didn't know how popular/mainstream this game has become.

It could be like a horror version of Night at the Museum. That could work.

The premise is solid for a movie. Gotta strike while the iron is hot. Plus it could expand upon upon the canon. Haters gonna hate.

Oh great take out the thing that actually made the games scary... The sense of agency and presence within the game.

*facepalm*

Then again, it'll probably do great. People now days don't understand what a real horror movie is. All they want are jump scares. Tension? Suspense? Nah, we'll just yell "BOO!" real loud with an obnoxious music stinger.

And the few that are rated R now days have ridiculous amounts of gore. I like gore just fine, but sometimes it just isn't necessary. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original Halloween, and the original Hitcher were effective because they didn't show much blood or gore. What your imagination could come up with was much more graphic and real than any fake CGI work they do now. It was all about tension.

Oddly enough I can get behind this. The story does indeed lend itself well to movie format, I just hope they actually put forth the effort to make it quality. I guess we'll see.

Hollywood has a knack for finding and choosing the games with the least amount of story to film.

@Ultramarinus: Actually there's a considerable amount of story here. I've never played the games myself, nor do I find them scary, but reading up on the background story actually made me quite interested. Sort of reminiscent of a well done creepypasta.

Dislike the game, but a movie could be good. All the background stuff this game has, about how it might have been inspired by a real story, made it seem more interesting to me and if they use that for parts of the script, it could be more... bear-able (haha). Just watching someone guard the place for a bit, go home, come back the next day and repeat.... that'd be kinda boring to watch.

"(The upcoming Beetlejuice sequel)" There's an upcoming sequel?!?!?!?!

I think this is fine as long as the creator in involved.

But then again its unknown if the creator has a very least experience making a feature film...

And the entire movie the camera will be in the same place, and the whole time be spent building up to one jump-scare.

I don't care if the movie are based of video games or not, as long it's properly executed, then I'm sold.

Must be nice, developing a string of relatively simple indie games and then selling the movie rights for probably a lot of money.

@Fartman7998: Shows that if you execute well on a simple solid concept, you can do better than entire teams of people working for years on bloated mainstream games. There's a lesson to be learned here.....

@Fartman7998@lewisholyland@Fartman7998: its amazing because the game is essentially a load of flash animations and a few buttons and some coding to stick it all together. honestly very easy to do but gives out great results, guy should be happy with the creation.

I'd say that there's a solid 5% chance that this will be decent. That's probably being a bit too generous though...
