A new contender has stepped into the independent game development ring--and it will be adding social networking to the game-creation process.

Founded by Greg Chudecke, who previously worked as lead tools engineer for Zipper Interactive on SOCOM, Washington-based Caffeinated Games will be announcing its first title next week. The official Web site will also act as a social network for those interested in gaming and as a way to communicate with the game creators.

"When you read postmortems about failed indie game companies, you often run across a common thread; either the publisher didn't understand the concept or didn't market the game," commented Cudecke in a statement. "Our approach to overcome this is to make the games we want to play and then pitch those games directly to the gamers."
