Indiana Jones 5 Brings on Jurassic Park, Crystal Skull Writer - Report
Steven Spielberg's upcoming fifth entry in the action series has found a writer, apparently.
Earlier this week, Disney announced a fifth Indiana Jones film and confirmed that Harrison Ford would return in the lead role and that Steven Spielberg was back to direct. Now, another key detail about the film has emerged, as The Hollywood Reporter says David Koepp will write the script.
Koepp has worked with Spielberg on a few occasions. He wrote 1993 classic Jurassic Park and has experience with Indiana Jones, as he wrote 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
No plot details for the new Indiana Jones film have been announced yet and we don't know if Koepp will be working off any existing material. THR notes, too, that it remains unclear if Indiana Jones co-creator George Lucas will have any role to play in the story/production of the new movie.
He was not mentioned in Disney's announcement earlier this week. While that does not necessarily mean he won't be involved, THR points out that Lucas was critical of Disney's story approach for The Force Awakens and it's possible the same would be true for the new Indiana Jones movie.
Ford will be 77 when the new Indiana Jones movie comes out, so naturally, people are wondering how his age may affect the script. THR says one possibility may be that the story could be a flashback (a younger actor would presumably play Jones) with the character in his later years played by Ford.
There are many unanswered questions at this point. And after the disappointment of Crystal Skull, in the eyes of some fans, it will be exciting to see the direction Disney takes with the new movie.
Crystal Skull grossed more than $786 million worldwide. Altogether, the Indiana Jones series has brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office across all four releases.
Indiana Jones 5 comes to theaters on July 19, 2019.
