Incoming: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier vs. Dragon's Dogma

Future-set shooter and fantasy action role-playing at retail next week, but which one is more interesting to GameSpot readers, and for which system?

High technology and high fantasy will square off at retailers next week as Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Capcom's Dragon's Dogma both hit store shelves Tuesday, May 22. While we likely won't know for weeks which game did better when it comes to sales, an unscientific sampling of GameSpot user behavior can give some insight into which game has most captured the audience's attention, and on which platform.

Next week, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will finally meet the present.

The following list shows all the games we believe are going to launch next week, as pulled from publisher announcements, retailer release lists, and other information. We've listed them in order based on the total number of GameSpot users following each title on each platform, as of Thursday, May 17. Every game-specific page on the site has a "Follow" button under the box art that registered users can click to receive updates about the games they care about whenever there's new content posted, so it provides some indication as to focused user interest surrounding a specific title.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier leads the pack this week, as Ubisoft's squad-based shooter attracted nearly 10,000 followers between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. Interestingly, the Xbox 360 version has attracted more than twice as many followers as its PS3 counterpart.

That might speak to the genre preferences of Xbox 360 players, as the next games on the list, the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of Dragon's Dogma, have a very different breakdown of followers between the platforms. The Xbox 360 edition of Dragon's Dogma still boasts more followers than the PS3 edition, but only by a slim margin. Capcom's fantasy role-playing game might have attracted more followers if it had as much time to gather them as Ghost Recon. While Dragon's Dogma was originally announced barely a year ago, Ubisoft's oft-delayed shooter was originally unveiled in February of 2010.

The PS3 edition of Dragon's Dogma drew about as much interest from gamers as the Xbox 360 edition.

Another long-awaited game rounded out the top five as Sony's PlayStation Move project Sorcery attracted more than 1,113 followers. Since its unveiling at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, the game has been one of the most gamer-oriented projects for the motion-sensing peripheral. Designed for a "hardcore" audience, the game features a combat system allowing for spell combos and also incorporates gesture-based puzzles into the gameplay.

Elsewhere on the chart, Nintendo's Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS was perhaps surprisingly trumped by Deep Silver's PC strategy wargame Iron Front - Liberation 1944. Meanwhile, movie tie-ins seemed to suffer for followers, as Activision's multiplatform Men in Black: Alien Crisis topped out at 55 followers for the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions, the same peak follower number for Activision's various Battleship adaptations reached last week.
