If you're a big fan of The Lord of the Rings and all things J.R.R. Tolkien, the illustrated editions of LOTR and The Hobbit are well-worth adding to your bookshelf. Each book contains Tolkien's sketches, drawings, paintings, and maps not found in the (many) other editions of these classic fantasy novels. Right now, you can save big on both books at Amazon. The Hobbit Illustrated, which released last month, is on sale for $33.75, and The Lord of the Rings Illustrated is down to $39.19. With list prices of $75 each, these deals are pretty great. Just make sure to click the coupon box when buying The Hobbit to get the full discount.

As an added touch, the text has been printed in two colors, which makes it pop beautifully next to Tolkien's elegant art. The prelude to The Lord of the Rings saga, The Hobbit explores the journey of Baggins alongside thirteen dwarves in their quest to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent. And of course, the story features a certain creature in the dark who guards a precious ring that holds great power.

The book was originally published in 1937 and has since become a phenomenon with mass appeal for readers of all ages. Only a handful of Tolkien's artistic contributions have been included in various editions of The Hobbit over its multiple reprints, but this edition is probably a must-have for Middle-earth fans. If you're looking for even more of Tolkien's work, Amazon has a number of other Lord of the Rings editions on sale.

A box set of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings is on sale for almost 50% off, a luxurious pocket-sized box set also received a big discount, and there's a one-volume hardback edition that wraps the saga up in a decadent package.
