I Can Handle Bloodborne DLC and Dark Souls 3 Simultaneously, says Miyazaki

Souls creator insists that splitting work between Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne won't hurt either.

Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki has assuranced that the quality of the game's upcoming expansion will not be impacted by his second project, Dark Souls 3, which he is serving as director on.

Fan expectations for the expansion are high, given the widespread critical acclaim Bloodborne and previous DLC developed by From Software, specifically Artorias of the Abyss, have received.

Given the lack of information about the Bloodborne DLC, as well as the degree Miyazaki is involved with it, fans voiced worries when it was revealed Miyazaki is directing Dark Souls 3.

Speaking in an interview with GameSpot, however, Miyazaki said he believes he has the capacity to work on both projects concurrently, and reminded fans it wouldn't be the first time he has done so.

"The bottom line is, I think I can do it. I believe I can do both the Bloodborne DLC and Dark Souls 3," he said. "This isn’t the first time I’ve had to work on two projects at the same time."

He continued: "When I was doing Demon’s Souls, I was also working on Armoured Core: For Answer. Even for the original Dark Souls, I acted as producer and director."

According to Miyazaki, delegating some of the heavy lifting on development of Dark Souls 3 will allow him to focus on designing his projects.

"In the case of Bloodborne, although I was the lead game director, there was another director level person that also contributed," he explained. "This is the same for Dark Souls 3.

"Actually, [Yui] Tanimura-san, the director of Dark Souls 2, has already joined the [Dark Souls 3] team, which will allow me to work on core gameplay design while other things are taken care of."

He ended by stating that any product with his name on it would be of high quality.

"As long as I am listed as game director on the end credits, there’s a certain level of quality the game needs to meet. I can guarantee that the game quality will reach that."

Asked to clarify if that was the case for both Bloodborne DLC and Dark Souls 3, he said "yes."

Elsewhere in the interview, Miyazaki said Dark Souls 3 is the "turning point" in the franchise and will pave the way for something new.

This is how you do PR. We don't need the ass-kissing we normally get. "Yeah, I really am that fucking good. Count on it." is way more reassuring than what we usually get.

But you still haven't fixed the frame pacing issue in bloodborne that was supposed to be a quick fix, guess quick means bloodborne 2. Just hate playing it with all the stuttering going on. I played it for about 8 hours then got to a point where the frame pacing really started to bother me especially since I played dark souls 2 on PC and it was buttery smooth so I stopped playing and was gonna wait for a patch. That was a week after the game launched. Just wish more devs were like CDPR and stayed on top of things and listened to what people were saying. Yes it's playable but it is something that should've been fixed long ago

A number of combat refinements were made in Dks 2. Like power stance for dual wield types, jump attack for off hand weapons

Bloodborne is one of the stand out games of the ps4.

Truly is an amazing game from the lore, combat and level design. The combat is unbelievably satisfying to the point that you welcome the level up grind just to crunch some bones

Dlc yes please

@jordpingitore4: Hundreds of critics and millions of gamers say otherwise, your a fool. Probably an angry Xbot who never got to play Demons Souls either. Let me guess that game was trash too? Troll.

@jordpingitore4: I know right!? All that fluid, fast paced combat? Garbage! The creepy, Lovecraft inspired enemy designs? Trash! Huge, challenging bosses? Crap!CRAP, I TELL YOU!!

The hours and hours of fun I had playing Bloodborne were just awful. So awful, in fact, that I can't wait for the DLC to come out so I can be miserable playing some of the new (certainly horrendous) content.

Not sure why so many are people trashing Dark Souls 2 over other Souls games.
Seems the majority of DkS1 games condemned it as the "terrible Souls game" that should never have existed.

As a fan and seasoned player of the series, Dark Souls 2 was a very satisfying, entertaining, challenging and lengthy experience.
I played about 50% of my time in PVP and rest was dedicated into 2 playthroughs + DLCS.

The PC version was very well made. Not the best port, but far from the worst. In terms of server connectivity and activity, performances, controls, visual fidelity - it was very well done.

Like any Souls game it had it ups and downs, and I think the pros were really good.
Besides even though Miyazaki wasn't directing the game, he was still involved in the production and development.

Dark Souls 2 took PVP to the next level. As a guy who played hundreds of hours on PVP alone, I can vouch for this.

Had some really nice improvement on combat, movesets, two weapon fighting and more. Had a ton of items and varied weapons.

Also Dark Souls 2 DLCs were fantastic. It really brought back the old pathfinding feel of the original Dark Souls, and even surpassed it in some aspects. Like every Souls game, during DkS2 I occasionally wrote notes down on a notepad, marking important unreachable locations and secrets, npcs and paths to take. The DLCs of DkS2 were so open-ended, I found myself doing that a lot more.

The only thing that really sucked about DkS2 was that scam move PC known as "Scholars of the First Money Grab". Sure on PS4 and XB1 it was all good. But for PC gamers of the original DkS2 (dx9), the new DX11 version rapidly killed the former version, by splitting the playerpool and not allowing to transfer saves too.

Anyway.. I can't shake the feeling that Dark Souls III is rushed and coming way too early. Not saying it will be too bad, but I think early 2016 isn't a good sign.

@GunEye: I don't get it either. Dark Souls 2 is a fine game. It's debatable that it's "worse" than Dark Souls too. It was more of a mix between Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. You've all played Demon's Souls too, right?

@Thanatos2k: yeah totally have. Completed it twice on 2 different characters.

First time I played was when the game came out. I was completely new to game (like many) and to the whole concept. Missed a lot of side stuff especially since I didn't even knew Wikia/dot existed and I done all the game with no walkthrough or guides.

Then I played Dark Souls 1, remember being very excited about it, it was a big long holiday here in Israe - I Played it non-stop. Getting in the zone of the Souls. It felt like a mind blowing step forward somehow.

Later in time, long after I have beaten Dks1, I returned to Demon's Souls for a 2nd, more thorough run. I was surprised how much I actually enjoyed it. I felt that Demon's had a great atmosphere and some memorable characters (Sage Freke awesome voice ftw).

So I actually learned to appreciate Demon's Souls a lot more after Dark Souls 1.

Then I played DkS2, took me a while to dig it, but I was hooked. Especially in PVP, which in PC felt a lot better.

Bloodborne I've actually started and finished last month. Felt very refreshing and good. I loved the simplicity of some aspect and complexity of others. The weapons fwlt empowering, each unique and versatile in its own way. Everything from visual fidelity, outstanding artistic value (blood blood blood!), gritty atmosphere, jaw dropping graphics, chilling impactful audio and interesting and confusing level design : the game felt like a polished work of art. Truly hardcore, old school and next gen. Played the heck out of it and platinumed it eventually!

I do feel like I need a break from Souls, I think we all as Souls fan do. I kinda wish Souls 3 would pnly.come out in 2-3 years - and become a very new, inventive and ground breaking..

@mesome713: Is this including BB-

Personally thought Bloodborne had enough changes, it's unfortunate you could play the game Dark Souls style and succeed. However; doing so puts a handicap on you.

The DLC would be wise to focus on what makes BB different to DS.

@mesome713: sorry but ac and cod games aren't anywhere near the same ballpark as a souls game! The worst souls game I've played, ranks higher than 100% of the games out there, IMO that is!

@mesome713: I apologize for I believe I may have misinterpreted your comment! And I believe you are correct that constantly rehashing games would be bad, but I don't think we need to worry because the man himself said ds3 was a turning point and hopefully that means he has some new ideas to bestow upon us! Good gaming to you!

Pretty similiar, only differences are that souls are more defensive type with smart use of the shield and stuff while bloodborne is more agile gaming, jump in attack jump out and has a more hack and slash feeling, more forgiving than souls. But I never played dark souls 2 so I can't compare it. Only first and demons soul, and demons souls were far from forgiving one of the few games where I actually shattered a Control and Went mental. I doubt BB expansion will be bad, and I doubt DS3 will be less then good. So pretty much no Point in this News post cause it is constantly repeating a few Words over and over just to fill out some space.?.

PRAISE THE LORD HIDETAKA MIYAZAKI but I feel that Yui Tanimura might ruin Dark Souls 3 as he did with Dark Souls 2. Better not let him mess up the game.

Yui Tanimura wasn't a bad director. It would be fair to say that he isn't Miyazaki. A game needs Miyazaki to feel like a Miyazaki game, just like a movie needs Tim Burton to be a Burton movie. MGS will not feel the same without Kojima. However, Yui Tanimura did a fair job with Dark Souls 2.
