Hunger Games-Like Game Battlegrounds Has Sold 2 Million Copies

Playerunknown's Battlegrounds released in March, and almost immediately it hit the top of Steam's top-selling chart. Developer Bluehole announced today that the game has passed a significant milestone, selling over two million copies.

In response to the popularity of Battlegrounds and to celebrate the milestone, Bluehole announced that it would be holding a livestream event on its Twitch channel on Thursday, May 4, to raise money for the charity Gamer's Outreach. Bluehole will match up to $100,000 in donations made during the event.

CEO of Bluehole Gang-Seok Kim said in a statement, "One of the main reasons we were able to hit this sales milestone is that we have a dedicated community who has helped us refine Playerunknown's Battlegrounds. We felt this invitational was a great way to give back and are pleased to make this small contribution to the cause."

Battlegrounds is a competitive survival game, similar in concept to The Hunger Games or The Culling. Since its release, it has gained a wide following, and currently has the third most active players on Steam behind Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

It's currently only available on PC, but Bluehole is working on bringing it to Xbox One and PS4. In the meantime, you can check out GameSpot's tips for the game here.
