Hugh Jackman has spoken about his return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, and he can't wait to "punch the shit" out of his friend and scene partner Ryan Reynolds.

Last year, it was announced by both Jackman and Reynolds on social media that the pair would both be returning as their respective comic book character roles, Wolverine and Deadpool, in the next Deadpool movie. Speaking to The Guardian about his upcoming movie The Son, Jackman discussed the journey he's had with the character of Wolverine and explained that he originally intended to retire from the role after his character's death in 2017's Logan.

However, Jackman says that he rebuts the idea that he has trouble letting go of Wolverine. "No, I was OK," he said. "I wasn’t tortured by it. When people would ask me [to reprise the role] - including Ryan, every five seconds - I was like: I’m done."

The actor finally gave in after realizing the potential of Deadpool 3, saying, "I just wanted to do it and I felt it in my gut... I get to punch the shit out of Ryan Reynolds every day."

Deadpool 3 is set to hit theatres on September 6, 2024. Although plot details are sparse, we do know that the movie is supposedly set in a different timeline, considering the fact that Wolverine dies at the end of 2017's Logan.
