HP offers up Compaq X gaming PC

Customization options on HP's new PC are designed specifically for gamers; starts at $1,599.

HP today announced that its new Compaq X gaming PC is now available for purchase. The PC maker's newest system line offers component customization options designed specifically for gamers. Default features include name-brand motherboards, a custom-made Cooler Master Wave Master case, and an Enermax 470W power supply.

Gamers can customize their gaming machine with top-of-the-line enthusiast-level components, including an Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics card, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card, Klipsch ProMedia Ultra THX Certified 5.1 speakers, a double-layer 8X DVD+RW/+R drive, and dual 74GB Western Digital Raptor SATA 10,000RPM hard drives in a RAID 0 configuration.

HP will offer two different Compaq X variants based on specific Intel and AMD processor platforms. The Intel-based GX5000T series features an ASUS P4C800-E motherboard, and there are four Intel Pentium 4 processor options ranging in speed from 2.8GHz to 3.4GHz. The AMD-based GX5000Z series features an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard; processor options include the AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and 3800+ as well as the AMD Athlon 64 FX-53.

Systems start at $1,599 without monitor, and GameSpot was able to customize a GX5000Z system with AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor, 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra graphics card, and 1GB of PC3200 system memory for $2,349. The Compaq X can be ordered directly from www.hpshopping.com or from retailer kiosks at Best Buy and Office Depot.
