Japanese video game giant Square Enix today reported earnings for the six-month period ended September 30, providing a new look into how the company is doing from a business perspective.

Total revenue was ¥106 billion, up 23 percent from the same period last year, when Square Enix pulled in ¥86.36 billion. Net income was ¥5.5 billion, a decrease from the ¥7.3 billion in income that Square Enix recorded during the same six-month period last year.

Major console games that came out during the period included Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and the PlayStation 4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Square Enix didn't say how well the games sold. The company also said it had "strong download sales" of catalog titles, but didn't name any titles outright.

Some of Square Enix's smartphone and PC games, including Mobius Final Fantasy, Hoshi No Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy Brave Excius, and Grimms Notes were also called out as revenue-drivers.

Square Enix's video game division, called Digital Entertainment, recorded revenue of ¥78.31 billion, up 30.1 percent from the same period last year. Operating income, however, dropped 6.1 percent to ¥12.13 billion.

Looking ahead, one of Square Enix's biggest upcoming games is Final Fantasy XV, which finally comes out on November 29 for PS4 and Xbox One. Director Hajime Tabata has said he hopes the game will sell 10 million copies, though that is not necessarily how many copies its needs to sell to turn a profit.
