Now Playing: Crackdown 3 - Official Launch Trailer

After years of development and multiple delays, Microsoft's next big exclusive, Crackdown 3, launches this week--and you can play it for only $1 if you meet a few requirements.

As a first-party game, Crackdown 3 is free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. And right now, Microsoft is offering a one-month Xbox Game Pass trial for only $1. The catch is that you need to be a new subscriber to enjoy the savings. There's also an offer that lets you buy a month of Game Pass for $2 that nets you a second month for free, which might be an even better deal.

Xbox Game Pass already has "millions" of subscribers, but if you're not among them, right now seems to be a good time to jump in. You can sign up for Xbox Game Pass on the Xbox website or through your console.

Crackdown 3 is coming to Xbox One and PC, but Xbox Game Pass is only on Xbox One right now. It could come to PC and other platforms down the road, but no announcements have been made as of it. Crackdown 3 launches on February 15.

In our Crackdown 3 review-in-progress, critic Chris Pereira lamented the campaign's lack of new ideas. "It soon becomes apparent that the campaign has little new to offer. It certainly delivers on letting you blow things up and jump around the city. However, a dozen years after the first Crackdown offered that same experience but failed to provide you with enough interesting content surrounding that, it's truly disappointing to see this latest iteration suffer from the very same problems."

Crackdown 3 is not the only game coming to Xbox Game Pass in February; you can see a full rundown of February's additions below.

For $10/month, Xbox Game Pass subscribers get access to a growing library of free games to download and play for as long as their membership stays active. There are more than 100 Xbox One and backwards-compatible Xbox 360 titles in the catalog, including Halo 5, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Sea of Thieves, PUBG, Mortal Kombat X, and many more.

February Game Pass Games

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider - February 7
  • The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season - February 7
  • Pumped BMX Pro - February 7
  • De Blob - February 14
  • Crackdown 3 - February 15
  • Batman: Return to Arkham - February 21

You can't play Crackdown 3 on PC with Game Pass for $1, but you can play it on the PC for $2! That's right, from now until 2/21 you can buy Xbox game pass for just $2 (which gives you two months, btw) and since Crackdown 3 is a "Play Anywhere" game you'll be able to play it on the PC. Since the game doesn't look exactly great, being able to try it out for two months for just $2 is a great way to decide whether you like it or not before buying it.

Bad news: if you ever owned gamepass, the $1 deal does not apply anymore, ever. Same with Gold.

Let me guess game pass, yeah....yeah....totally worth an article

I played the Crackdown 3 multiplayer and it's bad, really bad! The graphics feel dated I know it's cel shaded, but it's missing something the graphics are just bland for a game that's been in development for what 8 years or so and the destruction is nowhere near on par with the e3 demo... What happened to the fluff of the.. I mean power of the cloud?. The gameplay is awful too, whoever said let's make it lock on targeting should be fired! I hope the single player is better.

Ads disguised as articles are the worst.

@Zerabp: So they shouldn't tell gamers about a deal like this?

"Xbox Game Pass is only on Xbox One right now. It could come to PC and other platforms down the road"

??? It's been on Windows 10 PCs for months, I played Forza Horizon 4 using it.

EDIT: Better yet, I just looked and I can install Crackdown 3 on my PC right now.

@Tidus7000: Mistaking it with PlayEverywhere much?

Avatar image for nsa_protocol44

@sladakrobot: I paid 1 euro and finished every XBOX exclusive in 1 month on PC, best deal ever.

Avatar image for Tidus7000

@sladakrobot: No, I don't own the game and honestly have no interest in buying it. I can install it (and Forza, Gears 4, State of Decay 2, etc) simply because they're on Game Pass.

Avatar image for greaseman1985

@Tidus7000: The point is currently with GamePass you must have it on Xbox, and only some games are PlayAnywhere on PC. If you just want GamePass on PC, it doesn't currently exist.

@greaseman1985: Xbox purchases can be made through, a console definitely isn't required. Xbox is just a brand, it's not specifcally the physical box connected to a TV any more.

GB link but:

There's no console required at all, it's all tied to your account.

Avatar image for greaseman1985

@Tidus7000: Sure, you can do that, but you're only getting a tiny fraction of the service. There is no PC-only GamePass where all the games are playable on PC.

I wouldn't pay even a single dollar to own every one of those games. 😠

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@asnakeneverdies: You don't have to pretend to hate the first one when everyone knows it's one of your favourite games :). You would have to be dead to not enjoy the first game it was brilliant and the enhancements on Xbox one X makes it every bit as good as current games around today. The only thing i wished for was 60 fps though seeing it was on X rather than just a 4k only mode.

The second one though was a stinking pile of cow dung and i actually traded it the same day as i bought it at the time lol.

Blame that stupid zombie craze that was so prevalent in 360/PS3 days though as they thought that was what everyone wanted from an open world title. So glad they have learned from that at least.

If the third Crackdown is anything last the last two Crackdowns, then it's not even worth a dollar.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@ronaldmcreagan: I can understand you hating the 2nd one but the first one was one of the best games of the last generation. Play it on the Xbox One X and it is 4k and still brilliant. If the campaign is anywhere near as good as the first game this should do well. Still unsure about MP. I was invited to try tests of it but the time delay in Australia made it impossible for me to connect during the test hours.

Crackdown 3 is neither an exclusive nor is it 'free' when you have to purchase a service.

Onto the game itself, I can't wait to play this multiplat despite the overwhelming negative impressions it's given. The worst thing I've heard is it plays like Crackdown, which is all I'll need. My only concern is I hope the campaign hasn't suffered due to the useless multiplayer aspect shoehorned in and all the delays it caused.

Avatar image for greaseman1985

@reznik00: Oh, I didn't know Crackdown 3 was available on non-Microsoft platforms. Silly me.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@reznik00: You mean the MP that gamespot absolutely loved :) . I was trying to play it due to an invite i received from MS but the windows were only 2 hours and were crazy times for oz . Obviously well suited in USA but not here :).

Avatar image for Decoy77

@reznik00: How is it not exclusive? It's on xbox only.

Avatar image for greaseman1985

@Decoy77: Its Microsoft exclusive, some people just want to be stupid about it. It can only be played on Microsoft platforms.

Avatar image for deviltaz35

@Decoy77: Well actually Crackdown 3 is PC as well but not the first One. Most don't talk about the 2nd one :)

Avatar image for Decoy77

@deviltaz35: eh PC/Xbox it's all Microsoft, so that's the same/exclusiveness.
