Snails are easy to catch in Animal Crossing, as long as it's raining.

Catching a snail in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is very easy--you just have to wait for the right weather conditions. It is among a small handful of bugs and fish that have special requirements to show up.

How To Catch Snails

  • Requires: 1x net, rainy weather, rock/shrub

Snails are available every month at any hour of the day or night in New Horizons, but they only appear on rocks or shrubs when it's raining. You can catch a snail on either your own island, a friend's island, or a deserted island, as long as the rainy weather conditions are met and there is a shrub or an intact rock somewhere. It must be the kind of rock you can mine with your shovel--beach boulders and the dark rocky tide pools near your ocean don't count, nor does discarded stone you've dropped on the ground. Shrubs are a recent addition, made available during New Horizons' first Nature Day event.

To catch a snail on a rock or shrub, just approach it slowly with the net. If you run up to it or walk too closely by it, the snail might get scared and retract into its shell, which will cause it to roll off the rock and disappear. As long as it's raining, snails will continue to respawn on rocks or shrubs at random, so just keep checking around until one shows up.
