CBS has announced that Hulu's gender-swapped How I Met Your Mother reboot--How I Met Your Father--will premiere on January 18, 2022. There's no word yet on whether the first season will be released all at once or released weekly.

The upcoming show's logline is as follows: "In the near future, Sophie (Hilary Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options." It's unclear whether the pandemic will factor into the show set in a year that likely many of us are ready to leave behind.

How I Met Your Father stars Hilary Duff, Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran, Suraj Sharma as well as recurring stars Kim Cattrall, Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes, and Josh Peck. The series is being executive produced by How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, with Adam Londy serving as co-executive producer.

Previously, the network did commission a pilot for the similarly-named How I Met Your Dad, which starred Greta Gerwig. Gerwig told Stephen Colbert in a late-night show appearance earlier this year that test audiences were not enthusiastic and that iteration of the project was ultimately scrapped.
