A How I Met Your Mother spin-off called How I Met Your Father is in the works with Hilary Duff set to star in the lead role. In a new interview, Duff shared some new details on the show that was just announced for Hulu.

On The Jess Cagle Show (via EW), Duff said How I Met Your Father will connect to How I Met Your Mother, and she's hopeful some original cast members will show up.

"I don't want to give it all away and the script is definitely being changed a little bit," Duff said. "But it does tie in and, you know, hopefully, we'll have some fun guest appearances from the original cast."

"There's so much opportunity for love stories with this show because it's Sophie and then, three dudes," she added. "So it's going down that whole rabbit hole of like, well, which one was the father? And you get to like go through all of Sophie's young experience of finding love and dating and what that's like in the modern world."

The first season of How I Met Your Father will have 10 episodes, and will be produced by HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.

"In the near future, Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options," reads a line from its description.

A spin-off pilot called How I Met Your Dad was filmed for CBS, featuring Greta Gerwig in the lead role. However, the show never materialized. Gerwig told Stephen Colbert that test audiences were not enthusiastic.

Hulu is currently riding high after The Handmaid's Tale Season 4's premiere broke records.
