Hot Date holds off Harry Potter

Electronic Art's The Sims: Hot Date virtual-life expansion pack tops NPD's latest list of best-selling PC games, followed by EA's latest adventure game, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Electronic Arts was competing with itself for the top spot in NPD Intelect's latest list of best-selling games, which covers the week of November 11-17, 2001. EA's latest virtual-life expansion pack, The Sims: Hot Date, edged out its latest adventure game, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, for first place. Infogrames' popular turn-based strategy game Civilization III slipped to third place from second place the week before, followed by the family-friendly sports game Backyard Basketball from Humongous. EA's very popular virtual-life game, The Sims, took fifth place.

On NPD's monthly list of best-selling games for October 2001, the top slot went to Dark Age of Camelot, the online role-playing game inspired by Arthurian legends from Mythic Entertainment. Westwood's latest real-time strategy game expansion, Command & Conquer Yuri's Revenge, took second place, followed by The Sims in third. Civilization III snagged fourth place on the list, while Infogrames' theme park management game, RollerCoaster Tycoon, took fifth.
