Hollywood Video Dreamcast Deposit

The Dreamcast rental program begins shortly and carries with it quite a hefty deposit fee.

Comments

Hollywood Video recently announced that its Dreamcast rental promotion will officially kick off on July 15. However, what hasn't been widely publicized is the deposit fee required to borrow a unit from a store. And with good reason - the rental chain is asking for a US$350 security deposit. Gamers will be required to have the $350 set aside in temporary holding charged on a credit card. According to Hollywood Video, this large deposit is required "because of expected high demand." Whether this larger-than-normal fee (the usual video-store average for the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 rental deposits is $200) will have any affect on potential Dreamcast renters remains to be seen.

The price for renting the Dreamcast at Hollywood Video will be $19.99 for 2 days (which includes one game). Additional game titles can be rented at $4.99 each for two days.
