Hogwarts Legacy Transmog Guide: How To Change Clothes But Keep Stats

Transmogrify and change the way your attires look in Hogwarts Legacy.

The Hogwarts Legacy transmogrification or transmog feature allows you to customize different aspects of your character. You certainly don't need to worry about the items that you wear since there's a way to alter their designs completely. Our Hogwarts Legacy transmog guide discusses how to change the appearance of your gear pieces and outfits.

How to use the transmog system in Hogwarts Legacy

Transmogrification (sometimes called "transmog or "xmog") is a mechanic often seen in massively multiplayer role-playing games (MMORPGs). World of Warcraft, in particular, lets you alter the design of your armor pieces and weapons based on what you've acquired in the past.

The same can be said for the transmog system in Hogwarts Legacy. Any gear piece design you've obtained, as well as cosmetic pieces, becomes part of your transmog collection. This mechanic allows you to replace the look of an equipped item while still retaining its stat boosts.

Place your cursor over an equipped item and press the corresponding button to change its appearance.

Changing the appearance of gear

To make use of transmogs in Hogwarts Legacy, simply go to your Gear tab. Then, have your cursor hover over any item that you have equipped. You'll then need to press the corresponding button to change its appearance (i.e., F key for PCs, X button for Xbox consoles, and the square button for PlayStation systems).

This takes you to the alteration screen. You'll see a couple of rows here:

  • Collections refer to cosmetic additions, such as the Dark Arts Pack if you preordered the Deluxe Edition.
  • As for the Other row, these are the basic designs of regular item drops you've found.

Make the changes that you prefer so your character looks snazzy. Lastly, this mechanic also implies that it's okay to sell most of your low-level or unwanted gear regardless of how cool they look. You'll still keep their design so they can be used on better equipment.

You'll be able to choose from various designs that you've unlocked or obtained.

Hogwarts Legacy is developed by Avalanche Software, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game has been embroiled in controversy due to transphobic remarks from Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Although she is not personally involved with its development, she stands to profit from its success. For more, read our in-depth article on how Rowling's comments have impacted the trans community. In this article you will also find links to trans creators you can support, as well as charities you can donate to.
