Hitman 3 Coming To Nintendo Switch This Month Too

Hitman 3 was announced for Nintendo Switch, but the release date was conspicuously absent until now.

We've known since October that Hitman 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming, but both Nintendo and developer IO Interactive had not yet mentioned a release date. That's changed now, with official word that it will come right alongside the other platforms on January 20. You'll be able to creatively assassinate targets just like those on other systems, as you can read about in our Hitman 3 review.

IO announced the date with a tweet. That puts the Switch release on the same day as more powerful platforms that will run it natively on the hardware itself: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The Switch version will require an internet connection, since it's streaming. But that also means it will be capable of rendering the game with more detail than the Switch itself could.

This is one of a handful of streaming games on Switch, and was announced along with Control. In GameSpot's Control cloud edition review, Phil Hornshaw said it ran generally well on Switch, with some degree of noticeable frame rate issues and graphical compromises. It's not the best way to play Control, but it will do in a pinch, so we can probably expect the same from Hitman.

Nintendo Switch isn't the only platform to host Hitman 3 on streaming servers, as it will also be available on Stadia, which plans to roll out its save-sharing feature with the game. We recently got hands-on with Hitman 3, including its wild murder mystery assassination. For more details, check out our Hitman 3 preorder guide. The PC version, as of now, does not support a free transfer of Hitman 2 content into Hitman 3 for those who owned it. However, this could be changing, according to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney. Epic Games is the sole platform for the PC version at launch.
