Hitman 2, New Sniper Assassin Co-Op Game Revealed During Pre-E3 Stream

"A distinct gameplay experience for players to be creative in larger sandbox locations."

Hitman 2 is official; publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed the game during a pre-E3 stream on its site. We've learned a few details about the game. It will be a direct sequel to Hitman, but unlike the previous title, which featured regular updates to its story via live content, Hitman 2's story will be revealed all at once on the day of launch (though there will still be some additional DLC, like new locations, released over time). Check out the reveal trailer below.

Hitman 2 will feature "hyper-detailed sandboxes full of living, breathing environments." During the reveal stream, its developers hinted that interacting with environments and objects would play a bigger role and "everything in the environment can be deadly." It features multiple international locations, but it will highlight Miami and an in-progress motorsport race that form a key part of the game's story.

For the first time, this Hitman game will be a direct follow up to the previous one. The story will delve deeper into Agent 47's past, and get closer to Agent 47 and Diana's story than before. You embark on a mission to hunt the Shadow Client and unravel his militia for good, but after revelations about Agent 47, "nothing will ever be the same."

Hitman 2 will also bring co-op to the game. Sniper Assassin mode allows you to jump into the Hitman series with another player and work together to take down targets. The mode can also be played by a single player and is available now for those who pre-order the standard, Silver, Gold, or Collector's editions of Hitman 2. Get a look at Sniper Assassin mode in action in the video below.

No episodes. The briefcase is back. Complex, open levels...

All we need now is Jesper Kyd!

@good_coop89: Hope the game also ditches the online-DRM requirement for single-player for as well and also finally follows up on the plot threads from Absolution.

I had a lot of fun with the last game. I remember I clocked more than 30 hours in Steam with the first chapter alone, thanks to challenges and contracts. I didn't mind the episodic format chosen for the last game because its chapters were released with tolerable intervals between each other (compared to other episodic games I have, the only purchase I regret is Dreamfall Chapters).

It might be a sin to say this, but I enjoyed Absolution more than the last game.

Shooting felt better, there was an actual story and I generally had a better idea of what to do. It just felt more modern and polished.

Nothing beats Blood Money though.

If it's more Always-Online DRM garbage, they can keep it.

@xenomorphalien: Hitman 2016 apart from the episodic controversy was honestly the best Hitman to date so this game will be amazing.

Exciting! I skipped the first one because of the episodic nature, so I'm glad they changed their ways.

@godfather830: Just FYI the first one you consider first is actually like the 5th entry on the franchise. The first one came out in the early 2000's if I'm not mistaken for PC.

Here's the order

1. Hitman Agent 47

2. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

3. Hitman: Contracts

4. Hitman: Blood Money

5. Hitman: Absolution

6. Hitman (Reboot the one you consider first episodic in nature)

7. Hitman 2 (Reboot)

@Realmjumper: The original came out in 2000. Also it's Codename 47, not Agent 47. One of the (awful) films was called Agent 47 I think.

Last one was amazing, and this one appears to be in the same vein.

It appears Agent 47 is going after Sean Bean this time. Neato!

Really enjoyed the last one.

I hope this works out for them. Looks an interesting setting though.

@Xristophoros: You want a decent stealth game, try the Dishonored series. Dishonored 2 in no powers mode and doing pacifist with no kills and no unconscious body discoveries reminded me of the original THIEF games. Dishonored 2 even has Stephen Russell voicing Corvo. I finished 1 & 2 and now starting Death of the Outsider.

Wow I thought it was a regular coop mode. That is long overdue. This mode is wack. Coming out in November may or may not be a terrible idea. Looks like most of the big games are coming out before November this year so there is a slim chance this could be great for the franchise.

Got to respect Square Enix for not destroyng Hitman franchise. They could, but they didn't. Props to them!

Never liked Hitman franchise myself, but its good to see they are still on business, with another publisher.

YES!!!!

The last Hitman (Release model ASIDE) has been the greatest entry in the series - hands DOWN.
With the news that IOI is now an independent developer, I'm so excited to see what they are going to do with the series.

This Co-Op mini-mode sounds interesting - a shame we can't do full co-op.
My wife would be so stoked to play this with me.

@playstationzone:

The Co-Op is a secondary online mini-mode with sniping. It's not the whole game.
