Hilarious New Lego Movie 2 Trailer Introduces Heroic Rex Dangervest

It's been nearly six months since the first trailer for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part arrived, and finally we have another look at the upcoming movie. The follow-up to 2014's The Lego Movie arrives in February and this latest trailer suggests it will be every bit as entertaining as the first film.

Like the first promo, the latest trailer shows that Bricksburg is now a terrifying Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic wasteland. When the city is attacked by DUPLO invaders and Lucy/Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) is kidnapped and taken into space, it's up to Emmet (Chris Pratt) and Batman (Will Arnett) to rescue her. The trailer also introduces us to another hero, the hunky Rex Dangervest, who has several familiar professions and is also voiced by Pratt. Check it out above.

The voice cast for The Lego Movie 2 also includes Tiffany Haddish, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Alison Brie. The movie is directed by Mike Mitchell, who previous helmed the hugely successful Trolls. He is actually the third director to be attached to the project, following Chris McKay, who instead made The Lego Batman Movie, and Rob Schrab, who exited the movie due to "creative differences." It hits theaters on February 8, 2019.

The movie will address some of the gender politics around both the first movie and the way kids play with toys. This is something that McKay, who remains on board as a producer, spoke about in a recent interview with Collider. "[It looks at] what's different and similar about gender, when a boy plays vs. how a girl plays," he said. "It's going to be like the first Lego Movie was, where it's about something else that's really profound. I'm really excited about where the movie is gonna go because it's about these things that are actual notions that people have that might even be unconscious biases, where people don't even realize that that's the way they're looking at the world."
