Acclaim Entertainment said Wednesday that its first-person shooter South Park will ship to retailers on March 1, 1999, and should be available on store shelves shortly thereafter.

Based on the TV's popular Comedy Central cartoon, South Park features the creative input of (among other things) series creators, Matt Stone and Trek Parker, a South Park-specific version of GameSpy Lite for easy one-click multiplayer games, and a smooth 3D engine (the same used in Acclaim's recently released Turok 2). A version of the game has been available for the Nintendo 64 since Christmas.

“South Park is not only hysterically funny but it also incorporates all the important features critical to success in the PC market, including Internet play with GameSpy support,” said Don Jackson, PC Product Manager at Acclaim Entertainment. “Whether you are a hard-core PC gamer or a fan of the show, you will love this game.”
