In a big surprise, legendary game developer Hideo Kojima appeared at Apple's WWDC 2023 event today where he announced that Death Stranding's Director's Cut is coming to Mac.

Kojima said he was "blown away" by Apple's efforts to make Mac a better place for games. In addition to Death Stranding, Kojima said he is actively working on bringing future titles from Kojima Productions to Mac, though he did not name any games outright.

During WWDC 2023, Apple announced that the next MacOS, Sonoma, will include a "Game Mode" that improves latency for PlayStation and Xbox controllers. The Game Mode also limits background tasks to help improve gaming performance by prioritizing GPU and CPU performance for games. This sounds similar to Microsoft's own game mode for Windows. According to Apple, its new Game Mode works with any game.

Kojima is not the first high-profile game designer to appear on Apple's stage over the years. Before this, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto showed up at an Apple event in 2016 to reveal Super Mario Run.

Death Stranding Director's Cut for Mac will be available to preorder soon, and it will launch later in 2023.

Kojima has multiple projects in the works, including Death Stranding 2 and a new Xbox game. Additionally, Kojima is working on a Death Stranding movie.

As for Apple, in addition to gaming on Mac, Apple has its Apple Arcade subscription service. For $5/month, users can subscribe and gain access to a library of microtransaction-free titles.
