Last week we had the opportunity to check out the new products that are pending in both of the Might and Magic and the Heroes of Might and Magic series. Here is the first part of that report, featuring details on the upcoming expansion for Heroes of Might and Magic III:

Shadows of Death, the second expansion pack for Heroes of Might and Magic III, should hit retail shelves soon and will ship with a complete copy of the original game. This latest add-on will also be compatible with the first expansion pack, Armageddon's Blade. In addition to featuring seven new campaigns, some of which are lengthier than any in the original game, Shadows of Death adds some extremely powerful combination artifacts. These artifacts have the potential to unbalance gameplay (for example, the Armor of the Damned will encumber your opponents with the Slow, Disrupting Ray, Curse, Weakness and Misfortune spells for 50 turns), but they won't be easy to obtain. There are also eight new special terrain types, which will influence spell casting or grant advantages to certain creatures, and 23 new neutral creatures. Perhaps the best addition is the ability to adjust the difficulty level for any Shadows of Death map, which should prevent players from being stumped by particularly challenging campaign maps. Gamers anxious for more significant changes to the series must wait for Heroes of Might and Magic IV, which is also in development and may be shown at the E3 in May.
