Here's When Spider-Man PS4 Reviews Are Coming

Just wait a little longer.

The next major exclusive for the PlayStation 4 is almost here. Spider-Man launches on September 7, and plenty of people are excited to get their hands on Peter Parker's latest adventure. A few of us have been playing early copies of the game for the past week and compiling our impressions, but you'll have to wait a little longer before you can read them.

The embargo date for Spider-Man reviews is Tuesday, September 4 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST (that's midnight in Sydney). You'll have to wait until then for our final thoughts on the game. That gives you three days to quickly change your mind over whether or not you want to pre-order the game if you were waiting on our review. Insomniac Games has already let a few details about Spider-Man slip prior to the embargo date, such as the game taking 20 hours to beat and the first DLC expansion launching on October 23.

For more information, you can read up on everything we've covered concerning Spider-Man from previous trailers, gameplay demos, interviews, and stage presentations. Kallie flew to Los Angeles to get a hands-on demo playing as Mary Jane Watson, whose levels are something you should be looking forward to, as well as interview Spider-Man's creative director Bryan Intihar. Edmond played a demo of the opening hours and found a lot of mechanics that players will like about Spider-Man, while also noticing a few annoying details.

At this past E3, we all agreed that Spider-Man gets the feel of our favorite wall-crawler just right. We also got our first look at Spidey's new Sinister Six--which is composed of Electro, Scorpion, Vulture, Shocker, Rhino and (probably) Doctor Octopus--in a new gameplay trailer. At Comic-Con, Spider-Man's enemies were expanded to include a task force led by Silver Sable that's been ordered to hunt him down.

Something must be wrong with the game for them to make websites release their reviews. Cause other wise their wouldn’t be an embargo on it in the first place.

@grimdealer: If the embargo was the day of release (or after) you might have a point. Certain companies have covered up bad games with such tactics. But this is well before release, more than enough time for preorders to be cancelled if the reviews are bad.

@Thanatos2k: but if your are buying digitally you can’t cancel it. Sony doesn’t let people cancel digital pre orders they have never let me.

@grimdealer: You can definitely cancel pre-orders 14 days before release date. Maybe you should give them a call and find out why you can't cancel your pre-order.

@grimdealer: Who digitally preorders something? There's literally no point. Supply will never run out.

@Thanatos2k: The same reason people pre-order physical copies... The extra digital content. The "Digital Deluxe Editions" usually give out more than a regular pre-order, at least it did with God of War. Got the 3-piece death armor set for Kratos and the kid, 3 shields, and a pin. Could only get the armor set through pre-order. That's the main reason people pre-order digital.

The other is so they can pre load the game and play it at 12am, which I could care less about. I only pre-ordered GoW digitally because I had surgery on my foot and couldn't go to the store. Normally I do physical copies.

@Vodoo: But you get the same benefits whether you preorder 10 minutes before launch. There is zero reason right now to have any game digitally preordered.

@Thanatos2k: some games if you pre order you can get the game 3 to 4 days before the release date. And like the person said above to get the pre order content.

@grimdealer: Are people that desperate for instant gratification? I don't think I've played a game at "launch" for years now. Preorder the game the day before if you really want it - after reviews have come out. Better yet, wait 6 months for a lower price complete version that contains the preorder "bonuses" anyways.

@Thanatos2k: Some of us like to pre load our games. We might not have the time to get a physical copy on launch day or dont want to hope our copies are actually delivered on launch day. Its great when you pre load your copy and once its available you get to play immediately vs going to the store, unwrapping your disc, waiting 30-60 minutes for your game to install, 5 more minutes for it to update, and only then can you finally play. Plenty of us play our game at launch which is appealing to those of us who want that convenience. Also, if something goes wrong with your system and you need to reinstall all of your games, its very easy to retrieve them vs finding the discs or hoping you didn't loan out the specific game you want to play. Lastly, its amazing having your entire library available to you so long as you have access to a console.

@dkidfrmdbx: Most of those benefits have nothing to do with preordering. Again, preorder 1 day before launch if you really want preloading. There's no reason to potentially get a lemon when you could have seen it coming just because you wanted preloading.

@Thanatos2k: I'm like you except the opposite way round... I play the majority before launch aha. Benefits of physical preorder copies arriving in the post.

If only critics took their time to analyze the game instead of go off a first impression.

@redhedjack: But they actually can't and stay in business. The first to post gets the clicks.
