The PlayStation 5 reveal event wouldn't have been complete without the big reveal. To that end, Sony showed off the physical hardware for its next-gen console for the first time, giving us the first clear image of what the PS5 actually looks like.

Like the DualSense controller, the PS5 breaks away from the all-black color scheme that has defined it since the PlayStation 3 in favor of a two-tone, black-and-white design. It is also a notable divergence from the blocky PlayStation 4, with a "wavier" outer shell that initially made fans question whether or not it was possible to position the console horizontally. The good news is yes, the PS5 can be laid flat.

While Sony has not provided official dimensions for the console, fans have taken to social media and other forums like Reddit to mock up their own predictions, comparing images of older consoles side-by-side and using the USB ports and disc drives to estimate measurements.

PS5 Disc-Less Digital Edition

As for the PS5 itself, Sony revealed that much like the Xbox One S, it will be available in two variants: one with a disc drive, and one without. The discless model, called the PS5 Digital Edition, is noticeably slimmer, although it still bears the same form factor. However, while we finally got to see the actual system, PS5's price and release date were not announced--that will come later, the company says.

PS5 Accessories

We also got a look at some PS5 accessories, including a charging dock for the DualSense controller, HD camera, Pulse 3D wireless headset, and media remote. The PS5 DualSense controller, which was unveiled earlier this year, features haptics and adaptive triggers, allowing developers to adjust the trigger tension and give more precise feedback than the classic rumble tech. It will also retain the light bar from the DualShock 4, though its placement on the controller has been tweaked.

Of course, we also saw a ton of PS5 games during the reveal event, many of which hadn't previously been announced. Some of the highlights include Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, a brand-new entry in the beloved platforming series "built from the ground up" for PS5, and Resident Evil 8. Sony saved perhaps its biggest announcement for last: a Horizon Zero Dawn sequel. You can catch up on more news in our PS5 reveal event recap.
