A new metal band out of Phoenix claims to be the world's first "Nedal" band, taking inspiration--from their looks to their lyrics--from the iconic Simpsons character, Ned Flanders.
The band is called Okilly Dokilly, which is just about the best name for such a band.
As you can see in the excellent image below, the five members of the band--Head Ned, Red Ned, Thread Ned, Stead Ned, and Bled Ned--attempt to recreate Flanders' iconic style, complete with mustaches, green shirts, and glasses. Head Ned is a lefty, just like Flanders, but the others are not.
In an interview with Rip It Up, lead singer Head Ned said, "The name Okilly Dokilly came up and was very funny to us," he says. "We ran with it."
The band's Facebook page notes that "most of our songs are direct Ned quotes." One of the band's songs, "All That Is Left," is an homage to the Leftorium, the store for left-handed people that Flanders opened in the season three episode "When Flanders Failed."
The song's bridge is "entirely left-handed puns," Head Ned said. One of the lines is: "When you feel left out / everything right seems wrong."
The band's overall sound is described by Head Ned as, "Not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk. Not as heavy as 'Homer J.ent'--Nedal is a happy medium in the Simpscene." Head to their Bandcamp page to learn more about the band and listen to some of their music.
"In reality, this is all just an over-the-top attempt at getting Matt Groening's autograph, even if it comes on a cease and desist letter," Head Ned said.
