We've known for some time that Mads Mikkelsen would be in this year's Star Wars: Rogue One, and he's now finally shared exactly what his role is. It's unclear if what he shared is meant to be a secret going into the movie; as such, potential spoilers lie ahead.

Mikkelsen, who played Casino Royale baddie Le Chiffre and the titular character in NBC's Hannibal, was asked about his involvement with Rogue One during an interview on Sky News. Mikkelsen reveals he plays the father of protagonist Jyn Erso. He quickly adds, "That was too much, I'm sorry."

Earlier in the video, he claims Rogue One is "the very first one; it's before anything you've seen in the Star Wars universe." That isn't actually true, as Rogue One--the story of how plans for the first Death Star are stolen by the Rebels--takes place between Episode III and IV. Maybe Mikkelsen falls in the camp of those who like to pretend the prequels don't exist.

Mikkelsen was also asked how he felt when he was first approached.

"A little scared," he said. "I mean I wasn't really sure whether I was wearing a stormtrooper outfit or anything like that at that point; I wasn't sure I could fit into that. I read the script--it was very beautiful. And Felicity [Jones] is playing this lovely, young, strong woman, and I play her father."

When Mikkelsen was quizzed about whether he can reveal if Darth Vader appears in the film, he said, "Yes, I can, but I won't."

Rogue One is being directed by Gareth Edwards and is slated to release on December 16, 2016. You can check out the first trailer here.
