It's been two years since Christopher Nolan's name was attached to a film, but that's all about to change very soon. Tenet, a new action-thriller from the British director and producer, got an official trailer today (December 19) and there are some very confusing, very unsettling things happening. Check it out below.

The film's synopsis has yet to be disclosed, but IMDb says Tenet revolves around "international espionage, time travel, and evolution." The trailer posits that a detective enters the afterlife and uses some sort of time rewinding powers to prevent a catastrophic world event from happening.

Nolan sits in the director, producer, and writer chairs for this upcoming action flick. Fellow Dark Knight Trilogy producer Emma Thomas will also serve as a producer alongside Nolan. The film stars John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman), Robert Pattinson (The Lighthouse), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass), Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Himesh Patel (Yesterday), and more.

Tenet is scheduled to hit theatres on July 17, 2020.

Christopher Nolan's last project was 2017's Dunkirk, a brutal depiction of World War II's Dunkirk evacuation. In our review of the film, we said, "Instead of wasting the big-budget on the big battles and destruction, Nolan saved it for grand and epic scenes focusing on the true heart of the film--which was the long and everlasting struggle of the human condition."
