Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.

Halo Wars 2 is changing in response to feedback from the recent beta. In the developer's latest weekly blog post, 343 outlined some of the balance changes and improvements.

First, 343 is reducing the Locust and Bloodfuel Locust DPS, health, and shield values in response to feedback from the beta. Quite a few people remarked that Locust was overpowered. Additionally, the Scarab can now attack from closer range, while loading times have been improved. What's more, there are a series of bug fixes and improvements for multiplayer server reliability, among many other things.

You can see a full list of what's changing and being improved below, but note that it's only a high-level rundown and doesn't get very specific. These changes will be implemented in the final version of Halo Wars 2 that comes out on February 21.

Additionally, 343 has announced that Halo Wars 2 players can earn up to 10 Blitz card packs for Halo Wars 2. Here is a rundown, as written by 343, of how you can earn them:

  • Blitz Beta – If you participated in the Blitz beta then you potentially have two card packs waiting for you when the game launches. You'll earn one pack if you just launched the beta and another pack if you completed one match.
  • Halo Wars 1 – The team also hooked up Halo Wars 2 Blitz Packs to two existing Halo Wars 1 achievements. You can earn one Blitz pack for completing the "Playin’ the Field" achievement and three packs for the "Adjudicate the Arbiter" achievement.
  • Halo Wars: DE – Get one Blitz Pack for completing the "Playin' the Field" achievement and three packs for "Adjudicate the Arbiter."

In other Halo Wars 2 news, 343 has confirmed that there will not be map-making tools and revealed the game's complete list of achievements.

Halo Wars 2 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. That means if you buy it digitally on Xbox One or PC, you'll receive access to the game--and all saves and progress--on the other platform at no extra cost.

halo wars 2 is not a true RTS, this game lacks, base building, resource collecting, wall building, turret building, and other things a true RTS SHOULD have it is just the truth and facts do not believe me? look at empire earth, star wars battleground, C & C generals, and many more halo wars 2 is without the things a true RTS has to have this game is just another cash grab and a lack luster from MS the game that will NEVER be a true RTS that is a fact not my opinion fanboys plus i have been playing RTS since the very first command and conquer on PS1 so fanboys do not think i am talking out my ass when i probably know more about RTS than you SMH.

Hrm... I disagree about the Locust. It balanced out some of the other relative weaknesses. Looks like less support will be required for the big-dog, which is convenient -- more units to spare for harassment.

[heh.. convenient.. Covenant... there's a jingle in there somewhere)

Nice! Looks like I'll be starting Blitz with ALL of those completion-based bonus packs.

I was going going to buy this just to play on my surface pro 4 I7. No reason it shouldnt run it but alas it runs at 720p 10-fps. God I want a new normal Warcraft game

@chiefwiggum16: It's possible that Halo Wars: DE (i.e., the re-released first one) will run. If you have a full-fledged PC, or an Xbone, it's still worth quickly pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition so you can quickly test DE.

@chiefwiggum16: It doesn't matter that you're running an i7 because your Surface Pro 4's integrated Intel Iris GPU is creating a performance bottleneck. GPU is more important than CPU for gaming.

All this talk about blitz cards bothers me. Those do not belong in an rts.

@siarhei: It's a separate mode, the traditional RTS modes are still there.

@pspearman: I am aware. But the emphasis on packs just screams MT, which have no place in a AAA title, imo.

@siarhei: No genre is safe. Just wait until they figure out how to charge you money every time you want to spawn a u...

Oh shit.

@Pyrosa: Lol, indeed. Let's just hope this Blitz mode is DOA.

@siarhei: Well, you're going to start seeing microtransactions in AAA games more and more, unless the launch prices of these games goes up. Your best bet is not to stand on principle, but judge each game and their respective MTs individually and decide which ones are actually harmed by having stuff like card packs sold separately.

@Mogan: I am willing to pay more if the game looks promising and offers good content. I am willing to pay for DLC. But I absolutely will not support any form of MT if it hinders the enjoyment of the main game.

P.S.: I have HW2 ultimate preordered, btw.

@siarhei: If you're dead set against microtransactions, and you're not 100% sure how they're going to play out in Halo Wars 2 ... pre-ordering this game might be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Do what you want, but given what you've said, I'd wait and see how Halo Wars 2 turns out.

@Mogan: Fair enough. My plan is to wait for reviews before opening the box. Even if the game is a dud, I can still trade it in and have HW1:DE to play (I'm getting ultimate for about 40$ at BB so no monetary loss). The main reason I'm buying this day 1 is to support RTS on consoles, which are pretty much dead.

@siarhei: As much as I had microtransactions, its a small price to pay for free DLC, as long as it stays away from normal game modes, its not that big an issue.

Avatar image for siarhei

@fitzy_2812: DLCs are not free though, unless you get Ultimate edition.

@siarhei: My mistake then, I thought I read somewhere that the multiplayer stuff was free, the single player stuff was in the season pass. Still the difference in prices is pretty minimal, $20 rather then the $60-100 extra you normally would be required to fork out which could be due to the transactions.

Avatar image for siarhei

@fitzy_2812: I agree it's not much of a surplus, but then we don't know what the DLCs are either :)

Avatar image for fitzy_2812

@siarhei: Looked it up. The Season Pass delivers regular updates that span more than six months, including: New Leaders with abilities that change the course of multiplayer matches, new Units that add to your multiplayer arsenal, new Blitz cards to collect and take into battle, and new campaign missions that expand the Halo Wars 2 story.

I know Sergeant Forge is like one of the first DLC leaders, I would assume most of the leaders from the first game will probably make an appearance also.

Avatar image for siarhei

@fitzy_2812: I'm pretty sure a good portion of that will free for non-season pass owners. New campaign missions sound nice though :)

It's nice to see a beta being at least a little like an actual beta.
