Here Are the Top 100 Pokemon in Japan
Surprisingly, Pikachu did not take the top spot.
If you were to guess which Pokemon is the most popular in Japan, you might say Pikachu, who has basically become the series' mascot. However, in an election intended to promote the next Pokemon movie, over 500,000 Japanese fans voted the ninja-like frog, Greninja, to the number one spot.
There are 721 Pokemon, and Greninja claimed first place with about 15 percent of the votes. The Pokemon will be made available for download in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire to those who attend the upcoming movie. It's unclear if this is a Japan-only promotion, so we've contacted Nintendo for more information.
Rounding out the top five are legendary Pokemon Arceus and Mew, the iconic Pikachu, and Sylveon, the fairy evolution of Eevee. The popular Charizard holds the sixth spot, while classic legendary Mewtwo sits at number 11. It's worth noting that original starters Charmander and Squirtle didn't make the list, yet Chandelure, a chandelier ghost Pokemon, did.
You can see every Pokemon that made the top 100 at the official site or in the list below.
