Here Are My Nintendo's New Rewards: More Free Games and Discounts

Nintendo's rewards program rolls out a new wave of freebies.

With a bunch of My Nintendo's rewards leaving earlier today, new ones have now taken their place.

The new batch is comprised of full game downloads for Wii U and 3DS, as well as discounts on digital games for those platforms. The new full games are available only if you have gold points (earned by purchasing digital games), while some discounts can be had for gold or platinum points (earned by browsing the eShop, playing Miitomo, etc.).

No Caption Provided

60 gold points gets you Super Mario Kart for Wii U or Mario Kart 8's first DLC Pack (the one with Link, the Blue Falcon kart, and other stuff), while 40 nets you Wario Land 3 for 3DS or Super Mario Bros. 3 for Wii U.

On the discount side, Earthbound Beginnings is 30 percent off for 20 gold points, while The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is 30 percent off for 50 gold points. Platinum-point discounts take only 15 percent of the price, but are available for NES Remix (150 points) and Super Mario 3D World (300).

The full list of new offers follows below (links take you to the My Nintendo site). These are available now in addition to some existing offers for full games and Miitomo items.

I've got a gorgeous poster for Zelda's 25th anniversary hanging on my wall, as one of the rewards for the loyalty program that preceded My Nintendo. I was just thinking how much I'd like to hang a Breath of the Wild poster next to it.

Now they're offering me free 16-letter codes to get $5 games. Sigh.

Nintendo should really consider implementing a free premium/retro game subscription like sony and microsoft. It would certainly knock some of the dust off my Wii U.

@rushiosan: Is Brazil the country with crazy taxes in gaming because its considered gambling? Or am I thinking of another country?

@ice12tray: Wrong country. We have high taxes, but they're for literally any import. Digital games are tax-free for now.

@freedom01: I couldnt stand Club Nintendo, have to go through so much work just for a few points, it was annoying. And then majority of the prizes was cheap stuff. Only the few expensive ones where cool, but the cost and time to get them was crazy. This way i feel is much more simple and funner.

@iandizion713: I dislike the new system, the only rewards you get on this is either discounts for digital games or clothes for your Miitomo character. And the only way to get gold coins is if you purchase digital games, nothing for those that purchase physical.

@freedom01: Yeah, which makes more sense, cause before, it was only for physical. Physical games have other rewards, like collector value, trade-ability, resell, etc. Id take DLC and games over posters and buttons any day. Plus they can still do physical rewards with how they have it set up, like if they want to do a special reward like they use to. But yeah, ill miss some things about Club Nintendo, but a bunch i wont miss at all.

@iandizion713: your list of other rewards for physical are not rewards....
Edit: What Nintendo could do is not only add physical rewards, but also allow consumers to get gold coins with the purchase of physical games. Because there are many that dont want to go digital due to many reasons.

@freedom01: They could, but i think they want to give digital owners something more special since they have to pay same or more then physical buyers. To kinda compensate them more. So i can understand how for people who buy majority physical like myself and majority others, we pretty much getting nothin.

Which im kinda fine for me, cause i always felt it was a waste to do all them surveys etc. I still have maybe 20-30 codes i never bothered to use. Im hoping they make to where we can trade platinum points for gold.

@iandizion713: Digital owners actually pay either the same or less than physical since they get huge discounts on their digital store. For physical owners, if they get their games less than original price, its because its a used game (most likely any code that came with the game is already redeemed), or it was a special sale.

@freedom01: I was talking how i can buy Madden Wii U physical for $15 brand new, but its still $59.99 digital. Some niche games that didnt sell well keep high prices.

@iandizion713: for that, I don't know why its like that. Could be that the game wasnt popular enough for the Wii U, that stores wants to get them off stock quickly.

This new system blows. Sitting on 2000 coins and nothing to spend them on.

Trash it.

This would at least be slightly useful if you could earn gold points with physical purchases.

@Sepewrath: Everybody wants to switch to digital. Saves THEM money. Nintendo just can't comprehend how storage space works. All those years with blocks threw them off.

Really confused here. How can Mario Kart 8 (a brand new Wii U game) worth 60 gold points be equal value to a $7 dollar DLC pack? Also Super Mario Bros. 3 sells for $5 dollars equal to 40 gold points? No logic accounting.

@Redsyrup: Mario Kart 8 isn't 60 points; Super Mario Kart (the SNES game on Virtual Console) is. You can also get the first Mario Kart 8 DLC pack for 60 points, or a 30% discount on the game itself for 140 points.
