Here Are All 20 SNES Games Releasing On Switch Online Today

Adding more value for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with the Super Nintendo library.

Nintendo announced during its latest Nintendo Direct livestream that a library of Super Nintendo games will be available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers at no additional cost beginning today, September 5. The games will also be local co-op and online competitive multiplayer features for some games, as well as a rewind function last seen with the Super Nintendo Classic built in. The initial list of games for launch is as follows:

Nintendo Switch Online Super Nintendo Games

  • Brawl Brothers
  • Breath Of Fire
  • Demon's Crest
  • F-Zero
  • Joe And Mac 2: Lost In The Tropics
  • Kirby's Dream Course
  • Kirby's Dream Land 3
  • Pilotwings
  • Star Fox
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Super EDF: Earth Defense Force
  • Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Puyo Puyo 2
  • Super Soccer
  • Super Tennis
  • The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past

Much like the NES games that already available on Switch, you'll need to be a subscriber to Nintendo's online service. If you have an Amazon Prime membership, you can get Nintendo Switch Online for free still, though that deal ends soon.

As was rumored when an FCC filing was uncovered, Nintendo will be selling a version of the original SNES controller for the Switch. It will be available for $30 USD, though we don't yet know when it will go on sale. This will only be available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, but it isn't required to play the games above.

Even more SNES games are also on the way, though it's unclear if they'll arrive monthly, as has been the trend with NES Online games.

Stunt Race FX wow. Love that game really wish they would release a remaster though because the draw distance and frame rate I find hard to deal with these days.

Wow.. What a wave of nostalgia right there!! These all came out more or less when I was starting secondary school!

Not a bad line up but with the mini SNES already out there and the New 3DS Virtual Console too, they had to deliver a distinguished line-up. Super Mario World was the SNES flagship game so it was a given. Joe & Mac is a clear example of the good classic stuff we've been waiting for. F-Zero was long-called for a Super Puyo Puyo was a great surprise! Hopefully Nintendo will finally roll out some previous Japan-only games, since the catalogue is huge.

My personal hopes for more titles are:

Parodius

Mystical Ninja Goemon

Chrono Trigger

Donkey Kong Country

Killer Instinct

Earthbound/Mother 3

Anyway, hopefully they can then hurry up with the N64 titles and really start indulging the fans.

What does the games coming to SNES mean, you get to keep & own them for free. You get to now buy them on your Switch now? Will you get to own them when their next system comes out (Next Switch, Switch 2???), or do you have to keep on buying these same games from one console to another? Seems there is no guarantee or loyalty from Nintendo, they just want to keep on sucking ur money?

@just1mohr: You are so right, I mean, PS4's backward compatible all the way to the...... Well, Xbox! Xbox plays games all the way back to the.... Hmmmm......

Sorry but, after awhile all the systems wind up losing compatibility. In fact, up until the Switch, Nintendo was the only one that was ever backward compatible to the previous system (Game Cube to Wii, Wii to Wii U). Meanwhile, Sony and Microsoft made you re-buy everything from the beginning.

So, Nintendo finally just now losing backwards compatibility at this point- yeah, it sucks but that just means they're finally catching up with everyone else.

Also, these games? You ain't buying crap. They come, for free, as a part of the subscription to their online service.

You know, the online service that everyone seemed to b&*( about even though the price is about halfof what Xbox/Playstation have been charging for years for just online access!!!

Which frankly, to me, makes their doing these NES and SNES games a great idea of theirs.

@just1mohr: The whole SNES (just like the NES) library comes for "free" if you have the Online Membership that costs roughly $5 annually per person if you have a family plan.

@neurogia:

Well this was bound to happen sooner than later, it was a no brainer for Nintendo.

I'm really pleased with the mini and this makes their online worth while for switch owners.

@neurogia: How did we get burned? It came out 2 years ago, features games that aren’t included for the switch (yet), and you have it forever...

@ice12tray: if he thinks *he* got burned wait until he hears this! I bought a original SNES 25+ years ago along with pilotwings, zelda, Fzero, and other titles. And now they have the gaul to offer all these titles for *free* with their online service?

Well, thats the last Nintendo product I buy...
