Hercules Releases First 64MB GeForce 2

The 3D Prophet II GTS will be the first GeForce 2 card to feature a full 64MB and is prepped to reach shelves this week.

Soon after Nvidia's April launch of its next-generation 3D chipset, the GeForce II GTS, companies started shipping 32MB 3D boards equipped with the chip. Hercules announced today that it will be the first to ship a card laden with a full 64MB of DDR (double date rate) RAM. The extra 32MB lets larger and more detailed textures be stored locally on the card, which Hercules claims will result in an average of a 15 percent increase in Quake III frame rates over the 32MB 3D Prophet II GTS.

The price of the extra DDR memory does, however, come at a substantial premium. This new card will set gamers back an estimated US$419.99. 32MB GeForce 2s run about $350.
