Hellboy Reboot Movie's Release Pushed Back To Spring
You'll have to wait a little longer for the new Hellboy.
The new Hellboy is going to take a little longer than expected. Summit Entertainment has pushed the reboot with David Harbour in the starring role back from a winter release date to next spring, from January 11, 2019 to April 12. That puts it directly against Robert Downey Jr. in The Voyage of Doctor Doolittle.
Collider reports that the new release date is a somewhat expected move, since January tends to be where studios place their leftovers. April is a more prestigious time of year to release, as the big-budget tentpole movies that used to be summer releases have slowly bled into spring. The move puts it into a more competitive season but also shows the studio has enough confidence to put it there.
This new version of Hellboy is coming from The Descent director Neil Marshall, with Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen, Ian McShane as Professor Broom, and Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimo. So far we've seen very little from Hellboy. The single promotional poster we've seen doesn't show any of its stars in their make-up, instead using an artist rendering very similar to the comic book style. Our best idea of the tone comes from a promotional shot of Harbour in the lead role.
New York Comic-Con is our next best bet to get a full-length trailer, and one of the last chances for Summit to release one in the midst of a convention. It will take place October 4-7.
