Blizzard has confirmed its latest Hearthstone expansion will be BlackRock Mountain, a weekly series of adventures that will be structured similarly to the Naxxramas update.

Lead designer Eric Dodds made the announcement on Friday during a PAX East keynote. He confirmed that each week a new wing will unlock, with heroic bosses, class challenges, and new cards rewarded for completion.

The expansion is due to arrive in April.

Specifically, the adventure will offer seventeen bosses, split across five wings. Some 31 new cards will be added across the adventure.

Like with Naxxramas, the price structure of Blackrock allows players to unlock the adventure with accrued in-game currency or with real cash. Each wing can be purchased for 700 gold or $6.99.

Two new class-specific cards shown appear to be counteracting rush decks. Dodds also said there would be more synergy with dragons, which have in recent weeks fallen out of favour in the meta.

Meanwhile, Dodds also revealed that the iPhone and Android phone edition is expected to arrive in a matter of months. The first ever images of this mobile edition can be found below.

Hearthstone system is f2p mentality.

While the system is kinda fair, and even with a basic deck you can go far (Kolento won a tournament with a basic Hunter deck), most of the time the new cards will destroy you.

WHile the system is not p2w, the game certainly tries to forces you to think about buying cards.

The games blurs sometimes the notion of p2w and items of convenience.

Some games you have no hope of winning if they have good game changing cards that you cant afford.

When you have your first good deck, the p2w aspects diminish significantly, as you amass more and more gold.

<< LINK REMOVED >> that's the aim of any f2p game to encourage you to spend money, but with this you don't need to spend any you can just play games and buy them with gold

like league you can buy character with money but you could just play games and earn them, the only thing that can't be bought are character skins and they are purely cosmetic

<< LINK REMOVED >> Digital Card Games can't be put into a F2P or P2W category. Do you not pay real cash for MtG booster packs from your local store? "But those are real cards!" some would say. Well real paper cards you can touch and store under your bed, digital ones have animations, voice overs and are neatly categorized in your digital library. It's a matter of choice, but both types are basically the same, they are card games and you need to pay for new cards. It's true that trading negates some of the costs, but so does disenchanting your extra cards.

So yeah, HS and it's like are neither F2P nor P2W.

Awesome fun and FREE!

Never spent a dime and I do just fine.

The only time it gets a little stale, is when you run in to a string of people all playing the same deck they found online. Be creative and imaginative, build your decks.

We pretty much knew all of this going by the leaks and previous behavior.

Hopefully they'll have stuff in there that cripples mech decks, because those are all I see.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> not about that, its the fact that someone can dump hundreds of dollars on the game and get instant card advantage over a new player. Which is fine, cause hey its their money,But for a f2p player to compete is really hard. A f2p player would have to either grind several months or even years to catch up to people who bulk buy packs(even with daily quests). Either that or be insanely good at arena, and the average player in arena will go 3/3 thus gaining very little.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> No it's not hard for a f2p player to compete. I've never spent a cent on the game and I have always done fine. It's more about skill/experience and luck than it is cards. I can and have (as have many others, just go to youtube to confirm) done very well on basic cards alone, even against players with legendaries. The idea that this game is p2w is nonsense. Anyone who calls it pay 2 win has either never played it, or might not be very good at it. The notion that spending lots of money will buy you wins is completely false.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> This is lies. This "Well you can beat anyone with basic cards if you don't suck" is an absolute nonsense argument.

Imagine an opponent. This opponent does not suck. In fact, this opponent is just as skilled as you.

You only have starter cards. This opponent has access to every card.

What do you think your record would be after 100 games? If you think 50-50 or anywhere close to that you're lying.

This is why it's pay to win. Having better cards gets you a better deck. You can instantly get better cards by paying. You are severely limited in your ability to get new cards without paying.

Also, you really aren't as good as you think you are.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Never said that money buys you wins exactly. Some amount of skill does matter. Ive made it to rank 10 myself with the only legendary I use being loatheb. But you cannot deny that if you spend money on the game you are at a huge advantage over a f2p player. Its a fact. You can also only do so much with a basic deck,as in you will be lucky to get past rank 15 with a full basic deck. My point is, for a f2p player to get alot of good cards youll have to grind for months. If a new player that intends to stay free to play sees this game they will have to wager if the time commitment is worth it or not. They can easily get discouraged and just quit if they find it isnt worth it and that is completely understandable. I know blizzard doesnt have to change the f2p model(and they probably won't). But could the model be better? Most definetely.

Untrue. I haven't spent a penny on the game and I have all the cards necessary to make most of the competitive decks (all except control warrior actually).

It's a fair business model. I just think it is deceptively difficult to play well.

<< LINK REMOVED >> not true. It'd certainly be easier to spend money to shorten the time between when you start out and when you can actually compete but i haven't spent a dime of real money and i usually win about half my games. i've even bought all the previous expansion sections from naxxramas without spending real money. even then buying decks doesn't guarantee you a win, just gets you more cards so you can try different strategies.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> But you're not really competing, are you. You can beat people as poor as you, but people with every card will build better decks. It's a fact you cannot deny. You might win here and there due to luck/draws, but your decks are factually weaker.

Imagine you started Hearthstone 1 week ago. How exactly are you going to "compete" when your ability to get cards is extremely limited?

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> No this is nonsense of the highest order. Sure by having a high dust counting deck, you will likely win more BUT HS offers two classes/decks for the beginner, which is the face hunter and zoo lock. Both only uses rares max, which are easily to amass after you get every hero to 10 and beating the innkeeper and playing for like a month or w/e. Infact, hunter prob is the n1 deck for beginners since even without getting rares, the base deck is good enough to win against similair players.

Face hunters are very popular and i've seen them even @ rank 4! Some may use snake trap, but you can grind to create that card, and that is just awesome. This game lets you set your own goals on how you want to progress in the game.

Also ANY game when you just started, shouldn't let be good against experienced players, else that game just stinks. If you just started HS, go grind your classes, learn the classes and learn the cards etc. Enough fun can be had without paying but ofc. if you want more out of the game, buying a few packs will help.

I myself played the game without spending money for a half year, after that i really wanted to speed to process up (my own choice) and bought naxxaramas and a few months later i bought 14 packs (around 18 euro's). So total around 40 euros, which is alittle bit cheaper then a new game yet i've spend hundreds and hundreds of hours in to HS, almost no game can say that (besides WoW). Not even DSII (which i spent around 120 hours on) just pales compared to the time i spent (and fun i had) with HS.

HS IS a great F2P game, a F2P game that actually deserve to give some money for since the game really is awesome.

Hopefully they are working on making the game more welcoming to new players. I am not sure how new players stick with this game without spending a ton of money. I know they want to make money but as a new player unless you buy a ton you aren't going to win very much.
