HDR Support Coming to Recore in 2017

You can expect the patch that adds HDR support sometime in 2017.

Another Microsoft-published Xbox One game will be patched to support high-dynamic range, the company has confirmed. Xbox Studios GM Shannon Loftis dropped the news on Twitter last night. She also confirmed that the patch that adds HDR support for Xbox One S consoles will come out in 2017.

Xbox technical director Mike Ybarra backed this up with a tweet of his own, writing, "Recore with HDR? Yes, it's coming."

Recore won't be the first Microsoft-published game with HDR support, as Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 already have it. You need an Xbox One S and a 4K-enabled TV to see the benefits of HDR, which include things like more vibrant and luminous colors.

Designed by Mega Man's Keiji Inafune, Recore launched in September at a budget price of $40. The game, which was the first in Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere program, saw middle-of-the-road reviews. It is currently discounted to $20 at places like Amazon and other stores.

This game is super fun, combat reminds me of the Lost Planet games. I looked what other games this guy made and sure enough he made Lost Planet. Great platformer as well the controls are great. I just don't get why it got so much hate from gamespot....... I'm guessing because it was an Xbox excusive but that just my opinion.

@Flodiac: Because halfway through all of the open world disappears and you are stuck in a tower doing VR Mission style gameplay, i.e. dodging mechanical devices and constructs and doing puzzle platforming in a much more intense way (disappearing blocks etc), and the nice varied environments disappear and you get generic looking tron-style dark blocky rooms. It gets stale fast and goes on for the entire second half of the game.

People who played a demo or just got a few hours in will be wondering why there is hate, people who made it to the back half will understand. They don't show that crap in the trailers and it's not because of any spoilers.

So.... still no HDR on PC from MS games on MS Windows using MS DirectX and MS UWP. Get your act together MS.

@girlusocrazy: PC's don't have the tech yet for some reason. To actually get HDR you need the latest HDMI which as far as I know no graphics card uses yet. The only reason the one S has it and not PC's is because they implemented the newest HDMI into their console.

And if you're wondering "well why can't they do a patch for PC's like the PS4" It's impossible as HDR is a hardware thing not software so they're lying.

@kanekan-slaugh: who's lying? The ps4 base models were and do provide HDR as the HDMI port was the latest standard but at the time the standard wasn't approved yet. This is why a update was able to do this. It enabled software support as the hardware was already there.

@129260: It doesn't work like that. New hardware just doesn't come in sudden;y as software. If that was the case then they would've never updated the HDMI port and xbox would've gotten a patch instead of a more expensive port. What sony is trying to do is emulate HDR like the pro is doing for 4K. No the hardware was never there.

Whoever you heard this from is a liar.

It's always cool when games get great features but damn, the bulk of the fanbase has usually moved on when these improvements arrive.

what about the pc version ?

@ALLIAMOS: HDR support on PC in the next thing the master race needs to tackle. So far, only Shadow Warrior 2 has it while games that were heavily advertised as including it like Forza 3 and Gears 4 are mysteriously absent despite the fact most modern GPU's and Win10 are fully HDR ready.

@howthegodzkill: Last I checked PC's don't have HDR because no graphics card manufacturer has implemented the latest HDMI (HDMI 2.0a) which is needed for HDR.

@kanekan-slaugh: Really? because Pascal GPUs can already do HDR hardware wise. This article even talks about it. Your information seems to be out of date.

@Lach0121: if that was the case then PC's should have HDR capabilities then. looking at it yes a brand new GPU has HDMI 2.0 and yes that allows HDR. Cool. Then all that's left is for developers to start working longer to allow HDR for PC's and then after all that the user needs not just a 4K display but one that uses HDR to actually get benefits from it.

But looking at this my point still stands it's a new GPU that has it which is great but it isn't the standard for PC's yet.

@kanekan-slaugh: Only a matter of time... much like most of consumer tech.

I was only pointing out your out-of-date information on the cards themselves.

@Lach0121: Still with this it's going to take longer for PC's especially since many are still on VGA since it works fine.

Finally tried the free trial over the weekend. Was pleasantly surprised at the great game-play with intuitive controls. Enjoyed what I played but still, I'll wait for a free GWG offer. :P
