James Gunn's The Suicide Squad spin-off centering around Peacemaker starring John Cena will premiere on HBO Max in January 2022. The series was announced back in September of last year and will begin production sometime late this year.

Gunn took to Twitter today confirming Peacemaker's debut as well as how DC and Warner Bros want to be more simpatico between their film and television products. He also revealed a little more info for what fans can expect from the upcoming HBO Max series.

"Peacemaker is my first real foray into television and I’m enjoying it immensely," Gunn continued. "Being able to explore the lives and relationships of characters over numerous episodes feels like being able to fully breathe creatively for the first time."

Talking with The Hollywood Reporter, Bloys expressed that Peacemaker on HBO Max will be the first sort of integration between TV and film and that will be their goal going forward.

"[We want] the movies speak to the TV shows that speak to the movies--that it's all connected," Bloys said. "I have regular conversations now with [Warner Bros. film chief] Toby Emmerich and [DC Content Chief Jim Lee] and we talk about the things that never would have been discussed before. The idea going forward is that we're talking with one voice about the DC Universe."

The Suicide Squad comes to theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021.
