HBO Max's upcoming Green Lantern TV show has found one of its leads. The series added Finn Wittrock to the cast as Guy Gardner. The news was revealed by DC Comics.

Wittrock is best known for his role as Dandy Mott in the Freakshow season of American Horror Story. This is the first casting news from the HBO Max show. Back in January, the show was ordered to series, and Green Lantern's first season will consist of 10 hour-long episodes.

The upcoming TV series will be written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Seth Grahame-Smith. Joining them are EPs Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Katzenberg, and David Madden.

Gardner was Earth's third Green Lantern--fourth if you count Alan Scott, who wasn't part of the Green Lantern Corps. While the character first appeared in DC Comics in 1968, the version most people are familiar with showed up in the '80s and was reintroduced by Steve Englehart and Joe Staton. The duo reinvented him as the ultimate "man's man," as Gardner was steeped in masculinity and seen as a parody.

While Gardner has yet to appear on the big screen, he's had numerous animated series appearances, including a lead role for a bit on Green Lantern: The Animated Series, where he as voiced by Diedrich Bader. Additionally, Gardner appeared on Batman: The Brave and the Bold and was voiced by James Arnold Taylor.

HBO Max continues to build its catalog of original series, recently adding Warrior Season 3 to the service and a revival of the sitcom Head of the Class.
