HBO Developing A Hellraiser Series -- Report
Clive Barker's horror classic Hellraiser is being developed as a TV series for HBO.
Hot on the heels of the announcement that Clive Barker's horror classic Hellraiser will be getting a reboot comes a report from The Hollywood Reporter that the franchise will be adapted into a TV series for HBO.
While details on the project are still developing, Mark Verheiden (Falling Skies) and Michael Dougherty (Trick'r'Treat) are set to write while David Gordon Green (Halloween) will direct "several initial episodes." The series is separate from the film reboot and will continue and expand the mythology contained within the franchise's 10 films. This likely means the show will explore not only the human characters but the Cenobites, the monsters contained within the franchise's infamous "puzzle box," known as The Lament Configuration, who hunt them as well. Lead by the iconic Pinhead (Doug Bradley), the Cenobites torture and kill their victims until the puzzle box is solved, sending them back to their labyrinthian hell-dimension.
Barker, director and writer of both the original Hellraiser film and it's source novella, The Hellbound Heart, is not currently involved with the HBO project. The rebooted film will be joining a growing number of upcoming classic horror remakes, including Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was recently delayed, and Candyman, starring Watchman's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
