After a lengthy absence, the dark comedy is coming back soon.

Barry, HBO's popular dark comedy about a hitman turned actor played by Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live), will be returning for a third season starting April 24 according to a release. Season 3 will span eight episodes.

Fans of the series have had to be extremely patient with the delays the pandemic caused the show--Season 2 premiered on March 31, 2019. Although the show was promptly renewed the following month for Season 3, it wasn't able to safely start production until August 2021--even though Barry was set to literally start shooting a week before COVID-19 shut down movie and TV productions across the world. Check out the tweet HBO sent out announcing the new season, which includes a few photos from the next batch of episodes.

The good news is the production delays allowed Hader and co-writer Alec Berg (Silicon Valley, Seinfeld) to work on Season 4. Last year, Berg shared that the pair seized on quarantine conditions to go ahead and write that set of episodes as well--which means for fans, something to look forward to move ahead sooner rather than later after this prolonged wait.

The show stars Hader as Barry Berkman, a former soldier turned assassin who attempts to pursue a new life as an actor while dealing with deep psychological issues. Henry Winkler plays Gene Cousineau, Barry's acting coach, and the cast also includes Stephen Root, Anthony Carrigan, and Sarah Goldberg.
