Now Playing: Hogwarts Legacy Reveal Trailer | PS5 Showcase

Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the late 1800s, where your actions will shape the wizarding world of Harry Potter. You can learn spells, tame fantastical beasts, and team-up with iconic Harry Potter characters during Hogwarts Legacy's main campaign. Aside from the 2021 release window, details on the game are scarce, and other platforms were not confirmed. You can check out the official reveal trailer below.

Along with the reveal trailer, Avalanche shared some brand-new screenshots of what players can expect when Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy arrives next year.

Avalanche's head of story Adrian Ropp briefly discussed some of the features Hogwarts Legacy will tout thanks to the power of PlayStation 5's processors and the sensory capabilities of the DualSense controller. Specifically, Ropp said the DualSense imbues a sense of sound and touch not seen in previous Harry Potter games, a feature that will make Hogwarts Legacy much more immersive.

"This is an exciting time to develop immersive experiences--the new opportunities provided by the PS5 are literal game-changers," Ropp said. "With innovative high definition graphics, a player can practically feel the terror of Inferi bearing down upon them [and] sense the ground rumbling beneath them as a herd of angry centaurs surrounds them. Even dueling against a deadly dark witch takes on a new level of realism thanks to the controller’s ability to imbue sound and touch into every moment."

In other Harry Potter news, author and series creator J. K. Rowling was under fire recently for controversial tweets she penned in relation to gender and transsexuality, and railing against hormone treatments by calling them "the new antidepressants." Actor and Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, responded to Rowling's comments with an open letter asserting that all transgender women are women. Her latest book, Troubled Blood, has also attracted criticism for its conflation between cross-dressing and deviance.

Sony has finally confirmed the release date and price for the PlayStation 5, which launches on November 12 in most countries and November 19 worldwide.
