Harmonix announcing new game at E3
Two weeks after it ruled out Rock Band 4 in 2011, the Boston-area developer confirms it will use annual expo to unveil its latest title.
There may not be a Rock Band 4 in 2011, but there will be a new Harmonix game announced at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. The Boston-based developer today sent out invitations to its annual party at the event, which it will use to "celebrate the announcement of our latest title." No further details were given.
Harmonix's revelation comes two weeks after its vice president of strategy and business development, Chris Rigopulos, said that Rock Band 4 would not come out this year. "Rock Band 3 is a big game with lots of available music content and lots of new goals and challenges. We want to give our fans the time to explore that fully," he told Game Informer.
However, Rigopulos also hinted at new projects during the interview, saying, "Rest assured that Harmonix is still developing new ideas and concepts to advance the Rock Band franchise, and we look forward to sharing those when the time is right."
One possibility is that the game that will be announced at E3 will be another band-specific title in the vein of The Beatles: Rock Band or the AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack. The last such offering, Green Day: Rock Band, was released last June. Another possibility is a sequel to the popular Kinect game Dance Central, which has sold more than 2.5 million units.
