Harada details Tekken: Blood Vengeance movie

Following the announcement of Tekken: Blood Vengeance, a CG Tekken movie coming to cinemas this summer, Tekken executive producer Katsuhiro Harada shared some details on the upcoming feature. Tekken: Blood Vengeance tells a story set between Tekkens 5 and 6 that is "parallel" to the canonical Tekken fiction.

Both English and Japanese-voiced versions of the film will be available, and the game's voice actors will be used for some characters. "We tried as much as possible to use the same voice actors as in the game," said Harada-san. Though the Tekken producer couldn't yet share any details on the film's plot, he reassured putative wary Tekken fans with the close involvement of the Tekken development team.

The movie is being produced by Digital Frontier (the outfit that created Resident Evil: Degeneration, Death Note, and Appleseed) and scripted by Dai Sato, writer for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Cowboy Bebop. The director is Youichi Mouri, who directed the opening cinematics for both Tekken 5 and Tekken 6.

"Fans have been begging for a full CG Tekken movie," Harada-san said, explaining that fan requests for a Tekken film began with Tekken 2 and Tekken 3, when the prospect of a feature film was impossible for technical reasons. After Tekken 6, however, which began with a four-minute CG movie, the game makers reconsidered the plausibility of creating a film with assets adapted from a Tekken game.

Work on the film began early last year, said Harada-san, and more will be revealed at E3. On the subject of Tekken X Street Fighter, Harada-san said only "We really haven't started [work on it]."
