Microsoft finally brings price of Xbox sci-fi shooter down to Earth.

After two years at $49.99, Halo's price is finally coming down. A somewhat hard-to-spot release on Xbox.com today announced that a new MSRP of $29.99. The announcement also said the change went into effect yesterday, even though a retailer visited by GameSpot last night had not yet adjusted its prices.

Halo was released concurrently with the Xbox's launch in 2001, and has remained one of the console's best-selling titles. Many game-industry analysts credit the Bungie-developed game, which was Xbox-exclusive until the PC release this September, as a key factor in the Microsoft console's viability. A version for the Macintosh is due out later this year, and a sequel, Halo 2, is due out in April 2004.
